Batteries
Always
store batteries somewhere dry. Battery life varies according to
size, number of hours used, and volume setting of the hearing
aid. Your hearing care professional can tell you how long your
batteries can be expected to last.
Signs
of a tired battery
Generally, if you find that you need to turn the volume up more
than usual, if sounds are distorted or your hearing aids are dead,
it is time to change your batteries.
Concerning safety, batteries are toxic and should be kept away
from children, pets, people with poor eyesight and anyone else
who might swallow them by accident.
First
aid for hearing aids
If your hearing aids are not working properly the first step is
to change the battery. Then check for and remove any build-up
of earwax. If the problem persists, contact your hearing care
professional.
How
long do hearing aids last?
On average, hearing aids last 3-5 years, depending on how well
they are taken care of, your particular body chemistry, and whether
or not your hearing changes significantly. Should your hearing
change slightly, your hearing aids can be adjusted accordingly.
Bear
in mind that your communication needs may also change. If there
is a dramatic change in your hearing or lifestyle, you may require
an alternative type of device with different features.
